We treat individuals 18 years or older struggling with substance use disorders.

We help people from all walks of life find the comfort, stability and serenity they need to take a step back and heal from addiction. Whether you’ve been to treatment before or not, we offer detox, inpatient residential and long-term care for clients regardless of where they are in their recovery journey.

People start using drugs for numerous reasons. At Journey Hillside Tarzana, we’ll help you explore why you turned to substance use and help you answer some of the important questions: Who am I? What do I want out of life? What brings me joy? Understanding who you are and the depths of your drug use will empower you to start rebuilding a healthier life, strong identity and authentic way of being. Evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the 12-step program and mindfulness training will help you rediscover the passions, hobbies and goals that burned so brightly before your addiction overshadowed everything else. We firmly believe that no matter where you’ve been or how you got there, you are still you at your core. Our experienced team of addiction specialists and medical professionals can help you reveal your true self and set your life back on track.

What is Addiction?

Addiction is the urge to use drugs or alcohol despite negative consequences or the desire to stop.

Addiction is disruptive to an individual’s life and impacts their personal relationships and overall well-being. Someone who is addicted to a substance will also find it difficult to perform duties and responsibilities or hold down a steady job. In the case of those in our Impaired Professionals Program, addiction can even threaten a well-established career and wreak havoc on one’s reputation.

Despite these negative effects, someone with an addiction cannot easily overcome it without professional help. With prolonged drug use, tolerance develops, which means that more of a drug is needed to reach desired effects. A higher tolerance can increase an individual’s risk of experiencing adverse side effects or overdose, especially during a relapse. It can also make detox more challenging. Over time, it can become physically or psychologically impossible to stop using drugs or alcohol, especially as dangerous withdrawal effects begin to develop. This loss of control is frightening to both their individual and their friends or family. If left unchecked addiction can get progressively worse and become life-threatening.

No two individuals respond to substance use or addiction in the same way. Someone may experience none of these signs, all of them, or something in-between. Over time, drug or alcohol use can take a toll on the individual and their loved ones, making it important to reach out before it’s too late. With proper treatment and a good support network, recovery is possible no matter how deep your addiction runs. Journey Hillside Tarzana provides comprehensive treatment programs and evidence-based therapies to help adults from the first steps of recovery to the last.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications in the treatment of substance use disorders. Used in combination with behavioral therapies, counseling and other treatment services, MAT provides a holistic approach that treats an individual and their symptoms as a whole. MAT is also useful during detox and withdrawal to help patients feel more comfortable and promote a more positive treatment experience.

Journey Hillside Tarzana recognizes MAT as an integral part of our addiction medicine. We actively support the use of medications throughout recovery, as research consistently shows better outcomes when MAT is combined with treatment services such as individual and group therapy. Clients will work closely with their therapists and addiction specialists to determine if and when MAT is necessary and develop an individualized treatment plan that incorporates the use of medications when appropriate.

Professionals Struggling with Addiction

Addiction is still highly stigmatized, despite its ability to affect people from all walks of life. Society often has a narrow view of addiction, associating substance use with poverty, crime and misfortune. These stereotypes fail to include the well-educated, high-achieving individuals with established careers that can also be affected by addiction, making it difficult for them to get the help they need.

Journey Hillside Tarzana offers unique programs for these individuals, offering a deeper focus and specialized treatment aimed at maintaining one’s professional standing. Our Impaired Professionals Track helps those in high-stress, intensive fields recover from substance abuse and preserve their careers.

We treat professionals in various occupations, including:

  • Doctors and physicians
  • Nurses
  • Pilots
  • Lawyers and attorneys
  • Dentists
  • Pharmacists
  • Business executives
  • Psychologists and therapists
  • Government officials

Impaired Professionals Program

Throughout the process, we maintain close contact with professional boards and provide treatment that meets the high standards of licensing and accrediting organizations. In our Impaired Professionals Program, you will not only find the treatment you need; you will find an ally that will advocate for you so you can return to work with your sobriety — and license —  intact.
